Patient Visitation Policy and Guidelines
The visitation policy at ShorePoint Health Venice was developed to support our patients and their family members while maintaining the safety of our patients and caregivers throughout the patients’ stay at ShorePoint Health Venice.
Visitation Hours:
- Monday – Sunday: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Patients have the right to deny visitors or withdraw visitation permission at any time.
Visitation Health and Safety Procedures:
- All visitors must wear face masks at all times and observe social distancing.
- COVID-19 vaccination is not required as a condition of visitation.
- We encourage each visitor to remain with the patient or in the approved waiting areas.
- We encourage all visitors to utilize hand sanitizers upon entering and exiting the hospital, as well as entering and exiting the patient’s room. Hand sanitation dispensers are located at the entrance of the hospital, the emergency room, and all patient rooms.
- Patients have the option to designate a visitor who is a family member, friend, guardian, or other individual as an essential caregiver. An essential caregiver will be allowed in-person visitation for at least 2 hours in addition to the normal visitation hours.
- The patient’s designated essential caregiver or healthcare team may limit visitation based on the individual needs of the patient.
- Consensual physical contact between the patient and visitor such as holding hands or hugging is allowed.
- In-person visitation is allowed under the following circumstances, unless the patient objects:
- End-of-life situations
- A patient who was living with family before being admitted to the hospital and is struggling with the change in environment and lack of in-person family support
- The patient is making one or more major medical decisions
- A patient is experiencing emotional distress or grieving the loss of a friend or family member who recently died.
- A patient needs cueing or encouragement to eat or drink which was previously provided by a family member or caregiver.
- A patient who used to talk and interact with others is seldom speaking.

Definition:
A designated essential caregiver is a person knowledgeable about the needs of the patient. The designated essential caregiver should be able to provide support and assistance, including physical assistance, emotional support, and assistance with communication or decision making.
We will continue to work with our volunteers on a limited basis. Those volunteers who have an existing schedule of work will continue to do so until further notice.
Non-essential activities continue to be suspended until further notice, including in-person community education seminars, tours and pre-operative classes. Online options will be utilized when necessary.
The COVID-19 Hospital Patient Visitor Policy is intended to provide additional safeguards for our patients and caregivers through decreased exposure to individuals who may have been exposed to the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Due to the changing nature of COVID-19 pandemic, this policy will be revised accordingly in response to circumstances.
