One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. And here in Florida, female breast cancer is the most frequently occurring cancer site for women.
To encourage more women to take action for their breast health, Venice Regional Bayfront Health is offering a special to women for October, which is annually recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Throughout the month of October, uninsured women can receive a digital mammogram for a special price.
“Mammograms save lives,” said Melinda B. Hart, M.D., Breast Surgeon. “Today, thanks to early detection and treatment advances, more women are surviving breast cancer and living longer, healthier lives.”
The October Mammogram Special is available exclusively at Venice Regional Bayfront Health’s Women’s Breast Institute, a facility with the Breast Imaging Center Excellence designation by the American College of Radiology.
“The bottom line is, nearly all breast cancers can be treated successfully if found early,” Dr. Hart added. “And the most effective way to detect breast cancer at an early, treatable stage is to have yearly mammograms starting at the age of 40, and to have regular clinical breast exams performed by a doctor or nurse.”
For women of average risk, the American Cancer Society recommends annual mammograms for ages 45-54, and screening every two years for women 55 and up. Different guidelines apply to women at higher risk. A screening mammogram can help detect breast cancer in its earliest and most treatable stages.
To participate in the October Mammogram Special, a woman must be age 40 or older and know the date of her last mammogram. For more information and to pre-register, call 941-497-7800.
For a list of risk factors and American Cancer Society recommendations, visit www.Cancer.org. Appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis. An order from a physician or qualified healthcare provider is required. If the patient does not have a physician/provider, a list will be provided for selection. All mammogram reports will be sent to the physician/provider, and the patient is responsible for follow-up. If you are uninsured, the price of $89 includes both the hospital and radiologist fees. This pricing applies only to a screening mammogram for women who are asymptomatic. Payment is expected at the time of service.
