Venice Regional Bayfront Health Announces Plans for Replacement Hospital
10/12/2016
New facility will be located at Jacaranda Boulevard and East Venice Avenue
Venice Regional Bayfront Health has taken the first step toward building a replacement hospital by filing a certificate of need (CON) with the State. The replacement hospital will be located at the intersection of Jacaranda Boulevard and East Venice Avenue.
“Our leadership team, in conjunction with our Board of Trustees and physician leaders, has considered thoughtfully how best to meet our community’s medical needs, provide convenient access for patients throughout southern Sarasota County, enhance patient experience, and support our caregivers in their work to provide quality patient care,” said John McLain, Venice Regional CEO. “We’ve determined that building a replacement hospital will achieve all of the objectives and allow Venice Regional to continue serving Venice and the surrounding communities well into the future.”
The location provides convenient access for Venice residents, as well as residents of Englewood and North Port. The new facility will offer the same services as Venice Regional currently offers, including emergency care, comprehensive cardiac care, surgery, critical care, intermediate care, orthopedics, bariatrics, and more. The new hospital will have a modern design that can accommodate growth, if needed, in the future. In addition, Venice Regional will maintain a free-standing Emergency Department and ambulatory services on the island.
“These plans – the replacement hospital and maintenance of emergency and ambulatory services on the island – continue to meet the needs of our patients and create additional access points for residents of surrounding communities,” McLain added.
Building of a replacement hospital follows significant capital investments in infrastructure, expanded services, clinical technology and equipment and physician recruitment that have occurred during the last two years. If the CON is approved, the replacement hospital is expected to be completed in early 2020.
