Physicians from Gulf Coast Medical Group, which is affiliated with Venice Regional Bayfront Health, took top honors in the inaugural VEN Awards, presented by Sun Coast Media Group on November 23. The VEN Awards (Venice, Englewood and North Port) seek to bring people close together across the three communities in South Sarasota County.
Cardiac surgeon Roberto Cervera, M.D., was named Surgeon of the Year, and Sheeba Mesghali, M.D., was named Doctor of the Year. Additional Gulf Coast Medical Group physicians who were honored included finalists James Landis, M.D., and Joseph Chebli, M.D.
Winners were selected in various categories from hundreds of nominations submitted by the public.
“Having Venice, Englewood and North Port represented at this awards ceremony is the first step toward unity as we grow together,” said Tom Smolarick, Venice Gondolier Sun publisher, in a news report.
“This is a high honor for Venice Regional and Gulf Coast Medical Group,” said John McLain, Venice Regional CEO. “Our physicians are intensely committed to their patients’ health and safety. To have that recognized by the public and the VEN Awards committee is terrific encouragement for all our medical professionals, staff and volunteers.”
